Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup melted butter, 1 1/2 sticks

- Chocolate Frosting:
- 8 ounces semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, cut in pieces
- 5 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup chopped pecans, optional
Preparation:
Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan; dust with flour and set aside.Mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Pour melted butter over flour mixture; stir until well blended. Spread oat mixture in prepared baking pan, patting into an even layer with fingers.
Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. In the top of a double boiler over simmering water, melt chocolate pieces. Stir in heavy cream; spread over cooled oat cookie crust. Chill until chocolate frosting is set, about 30 minutes. Makes about 2 dozen oat bars.
