Walnut Bars

By Diana Rattray, About.com

These easy walnut bars are made with brown sugar, egg, vanilla, and chopped walnuts.

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 325°.
Sift flour with salt and baking soda. In a mixing bowl with hand-held electric mixer on high, beat egg until foamy. Add brown sugar and vanilla; beat well. Stir in flour mixture, then walnuts. With a spatula, spread batter in well-greased 8- x 8- x 1-inch pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until top has formed a crust. Cut into 2-inch bars; cool in pan. Makes about 16 walnut bars.
